Participating for the 2nd time in the Holland Tulip Festival, the Dutchers held off a furious rally from the South Haven Bark Peelers in the ninth round and held on to claim victory in front of a great turnout of cranks on a beautiful spring day. The two clubs will meet again later in the season. Douglas welcomed the Huntington Champion Hill Toppers in their home opener at Beery Field and managed to polish up their game on the offensive and defensive ends, prevailing over the Hill Toppers 12-3 prior to sharing a hearty feast and time of fellowship. Dutchers Drown South Haven to End Season
posted Sat September 11, 2010
Even mother nature could not put an end to the Dutchers winning ways on a commemorative day at Beery Field. In memory of the lives lost on 9/11, Sgt Andrew Schwallier from the 126th Army Band provided a bright moment for both clubs on an otherwise rainy and dreary day as he performed Taps and the Star Spangled Banner prior to the match. Despite falling behind by a tally of 6-2 after the first round, the resilient Dutchers regained their composure and sank the South Haven Barkpeelers for the second time this season by a final tally of 19-9. Douglas closes out their successful season with 14 victories against 4 defeats.
